Valentine's Day and Rantings

I had to work from 8:30am-9:00pm on Thursday. I was so sad that I couldn't spend time with both of my Valentines. While I was gone, they were busy making me cookies and cards and buying me flowers. It was a nice surprise after a long day!

Jake and I had our pictures taken as a surprise Valentine's gift for Greg. But, the portrait studio called the day before to confirm the appointment (even though I told them not to) and Greg was the only person home to receive the call. So much for surprises. Here is a link to the pictures:

It's been a long, frustrating week. I am seriously fed up with many people in my life - don't worry it's not anyone who even knows about my blog site. It's been a week of annoying people giving me advice on parenting, rich people snubbing me and entitled people giving me a hard time at work. I've found myself biting my tongue so many times this week. The role of a student (and a mother) requires a lot of humility and adaptive regression. Which brings me to my Lenten sacrifice... This year for Lent, instead of giving up something frivolous like chocolate, Greg and I decided to heed the advice of our priest - to give up unnecessary anger and hatred. I'm trying to do this in the form of not using profanity, not gossiping or speaking critically about someone for no good reason and controlling my anger. This is really a challenge, especially the profanity part. I really have a sailor's mouth and need to tone it down. Jake repeats a lot of what we say. He is now saying a number of two words phrases - get down (to Baba when he jumps up the highchair), sit down (what I say to him in the bathtub), hi mommy, daddy, etc., more cookies, and SHUT UP! I am sure that he picked that one up from me yelling at Leeza.

Happy Belated Valentine's Day!
